Letter to My Pets (from an e-mail)
Letter to My Pets:
When I say to move, it means to go someplace else, not to switch
positions with each other so there are still two of you in my way.
The dishes with the paw print are yours and contain your food. All
other dishes are mine and contain my food. Please note that placing
your paw print in the middle of MY plate and food does not stake a
claim making it YOUR plate and food.
The stairway was not designed by NASCAR and is not a racetrack. Beating
me to the bottom is not the object. Tripping me doesn't help in your
quest to reach the bottom first, because I fall faster than you can
run.
I cannot buy anything bigger than a king sized bed. I am very sorry
about this. Do not think that I will continue sleeping on the couch to
ensure your comfort.
Dogs and cats actually curl up in a ball when they sleep. It is not
necessary to sleep perpendicular to one another, stretched out to the
fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straight out
and having tongues hanging out the other end to maximize space is
nothing but sarcasm.
For the last time, there is not a secret exit from the bathroom. If by
some miracle I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is
not necessary to claw, whine, meow, try to turn the knob, or get your
paw under the edge of the door and try to pull it open. I must exit
through the same door I entered. Honest.
Also, I have been using the bathroom by myself for quite some time --
canine or feline attendance is not mandatory.
I can't stress this one enough -- kiss me, THEN go smell the other
dog's/cat's behind.
To pacify you, my dear companions, I have posted the following notice
on our front door:
Rules for Non-Pet Owners Who Visit and then Complain About Our Pets
1. The pets live here. You don't.
2. If you don't want their hair on your clothes, stay off the
furniture. (That's why it's called "fur"niture.)
3. To you, our pets are just animals. To us, they are an adopted
son/daughter who happens to be hairy, walks on all fours and doesn't
speak clearly.
4. Dogs and cats are better than kids because:
- they don't ask for money all the time
- they are easier to train
- they usually come when called
- they don't hang out with drug-using friends
- they don't need a gazillion dollars for a college education, and - if
they get pregnant, you can sell the children. :)

Hmm..
We are worried about our cat, Rusty. He is a senior kitty that I can scarcely remember not having. He has been meowing ALL the time. I mean, ALL the time. He never used to. Plus, his tail had lost a strip of fur. And, now both sides are bare. It has almost no hair on it.
We need to take him to a vet. He hasn't been to one since he was a kitten. He's been an indoor cat so there hasn't been many issues with him.
I really hope it is nothing serious. Will let you know as soon as we find out.

Cat Update
Not only did they spay Precious, they removed a digit. Apparently, she had a really long nail growing into her. They couldn't cut the nail even. Ouch. That alone would make me grouchy. :(
It was, to say the least, interesting to have to put the cone collar on her. Near impossible I'd say.
My mom had to stay home from work today to take care of her. (thanks mom!) Precious was nutso last night!
This morning, Tom helped her take off the bandage for her paw, and it took great skill and talent, from what I hear! The tape they used was pulling out fur. Ouch. Poor kitty.
I hope she heals quickly and well.

Spay Day
Woo Hoo! I am happy. Today is the day. Precious "Precious" went into the vet's to get spayed today. I am praying that she is ok. Surgery always makes me nervous.
She hasn't been nursing the kittens for 2 weeks, and has gone into heat again. You've got to be kidding me! I didn't know it would happen that quickly. Did you?
When she is well we are giving her to a friend of ours. She will be an indoor/outdoor cat -- but with no chance of getting pregnant again! She will be happy though.
The kittens are growing & learning by leaps and bounds! :0)
I will let you know how it all goes. I will be picking her up about 4:30 or so today.

Kittens Everywhere!
Our house seems to be a zoo right now. I mean it. Two dogs, two adult cats, and four kittens.
It's the mama that is nutso right now. The four kittens are quickly growing into very active little cats. They are climbing everywhere, finding spaces to squeeze into that I didn't think was possible, and being fun and tiring.
(sigh) I will have to post some pictures of them. They are continually cuter each day and I am definitely taking pictures all the time! You can visit my picture blog by clicking on Picture Fiend
Let me know what you think!

8 days old
Our sweet little kittens are so adorable. I don't know how we'll ever let them go.
I'm sure my husband would say, "Quickly, that's how!"
I would like to keep one at least.

Kittens!
9:30 am
Kitty number 1 is all black
10:00 am
The second one is black & white. They are so cute.
Precious seems to be a good mommy. She is cleaning them and everything. Just like she's supposed to!
10:15 am
The third kitten is out and is black. It came about 5 minutes ago.
10:35 am
The fourth kitten is out and looks tiger-like. It was a couple of minutes ago.
11:18 am
It seems she is all done. We don't know for sure of course. They are all adorable and so tiny. She is being very cuddly with them.
Two of the babies (I believe the first two) came out tail first, with no apparent sac.
The other two came out in the sac head first.

Four kittens at the end of it all!
